The Holy Spirit, The Great Spirit

The Holy Spirit (The Great Spirit)

WRITTEN by Michael Corthell

When we human beings are truly mindful we have a great and very powerful energy within us. We of the Judeo-Christian tradition call this the Holy Spirit (the light of the truth). In Zen Buddhism this omnipotent energy is simply called ''Buddha''. Yes, Buddha according to many teachers in that tradition, including Thich Nhat Hanh, equate the Buddha with the essence of the Holy Spirit (God).

As we should all know, where the Holy Spirit (or the Great Spirit) is there is also understanding, life, solidity, freedom, healing and compassion. With complete mindfulness, true life manifests itself through this Spirit.

We all have the ability by accepting the Holy Spirit, and practicing mindfulness to generate healing. Jesus Christ(God incarnate) continues to tell us how to be mindful by simply saying; ''Have Faith in God.''

Mindfulness is the universal human capacity for attention and awareness and knowing surely and simply that we are all part of the whole. All is in one and one is in all.  All of us have the capacity to pay attention and to develop greater awareness regardless of what tradition and belief system we hold.

The practice of mindfulness is about developing a very keen awareness and being present for each moment instead of being caught up in the narrative or story about our lives that often fills and overwhelms our minds. It is clarity of thought.

When we are practicing meditation, whether it's by walking mindfully, drinking tea, or even washing dishes, we can cultivate this powerful energy within us, energy that is derived from Faith in the Holy Spirit.
